Brief history

The city of Leuven, home of the university, enjoys a strong reputation and tradition as an active organizer of large-scale exhibitions. One of the highlights in this respect was the Rogier van der Weyden exhibition in 2009, which coincided with the opening of M-Museum in Leuven. The organization of this project was led by the erstwhile non-profit group Artes.Leuven.

In 2012, the city of Leuven and KU Leuven decided to create a new organisational structure with a broader mission. This new association was named KU[N]ST Leuven. The mission of KU[N]ST Leuven is to set up large-scale cultural projects in collaboration with M-Museum Leuven, various other Leuven based cultural organisations, and the University of Leuven (KU Leuven). These city-wide festivals aid in putting Leuven on the map, at home and abroad, as a cultural hub of science and innovation.
